We had a fantastic opportunity to interview Dr. Tiffanie Ong the chief operating officer at Naluri on their growth story and purpose.
WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION IN FOUNDING NALURI ?
Azran Osman-Rani and Dr. Jeremy Ting founded Naluri back in 2017. I took the leap of faith and joined the founding leadership team as Naluri’s COO officially in 2019. The inspiration to join Naluri was primarily driven by how closely aligned Naluri’s mission is to my own—the shift from sick care to health care.
HOW IS THE MEDTECH INDUSTRY AND HOW DO YOU SEE IT DEVELOPING IN THE FUTURE?
I think it's incredibly exciting! This new normal where physical distancing is necessary to keep us safe and where mental health concerns are on the rise has inevitably accelerated the pace of the adoption of digital health solutions. There is a growing realisation and appreciation for the need to deal with health in a holistic manner where physical health and mental health are treated equally.
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO JOIN R3i VENTURES AND ITS HOUSE OF MEDTECH? HOW HAS IT HELPED YOU GET TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY?
As a leadership team, we are mindful of the dangers of groupthink. R3i Ventures has been a great partner in ensuring that we get the necessary exposure and inputs from a diverse yet like-minded group of individuals/companies.
WHAT LED YOU TO DECIDE YOU'RE CURRENT POSITION AND JOB?
It was a very natural fit given my academic and research background in cognitive psychology and behavioural science in addition to my professional experience as a management consultant. I enjoy the process of bringing abstract and theoretical concepts to life, even more so when the output of my work has a direct and meaningful impact on end-users.
WHAT ARE THE TOP REASONS YOU BELIEVE IN THE HOUSE OF X?
House of X allows us the opportunity to gain unfiltered perspectives across different areas of specialties. It also has a very structured and well-thought-out learning program that teaches us the do’s and don'ts from different seasoned experts.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY THE MOST ABOUT THE WORK YOU DO?
I enjoy the fact that my work now has a direct and almost immediate impact on the lives of others. It's different from my experience in academia or corporate where I didn’t have the luxury of seeing the practical implications of my work.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?
I'm most proud of the team at Naluri. In the early days, we hired based on commitment and having a shared mission over work experience. It remains a humbling experience witnessing the growth that the team has demonstrated over the last 2 and a half years, albeit the chaotic and fast-paced environment that comes with being part of a young start-up.
